TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Jakarta begins a project to revamp 90 slum community units (RW) in 10 districts. The work began after the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) completed the selection process.
Imam Bahri, head of South Jakarta's Office of Public Housing and Residential Areas, said he had visited a number of the slum neighborhoods. In Lenteng Atas, Manggarai, Pasar Manggis and Pela Mampang, the work has begun.
"This is a two-month project, but for this week alone we have fast-tracked it," Imam said on Tuesday, June 21.
Imam is optimistic that the slum revamps program can run smoothly, and he is targeting it to be completed by the end of 2022. He did not say the budget amount of the program.
Through the project, the South Jakarta Administrative City Government will improve the environment around people's homes, starting from access roads to waterways.
Imam said the government was focusing on improving areas outside residents' homes. "We are not entering a private area, but [focus] more on improving access roads.
