TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake measured at 5.5 Magnitude has struck the City of Ruteng in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Wednesday, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported
BMKG head of earthquake and tsunami Bambang Setiyo Prayitno said the quake came from the Flores Sea region with its epicenter coming from 124 kilometers off the coast of Ruteng and at the depth of 499 kilometers, making it a tectonic earthquake.
"By taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a deep earthquake due to the downward pull of the mantle and the thicker mantle buoyancy beneath it," Prayitno explained.
The quake was felt at Pasimasunggu in the East Pasimasunggu region and Pasimaranmu. The agency reported that the earthquake has no potential of causing a tsunami and no aftershocks have been reported.
