TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in the early hours of Wednesday recorded a magnitude 5.3 earthquake hitting the area of Sinabang, Aceh, at 02:08 Indonesia Western Time (WIB).

The agency said the epicenter of the earthquake was detected to come from 43 kilometers Southwest of Sinabang and at the depth of 10 kilometers. Fortunately, the agency’s Twitter account announced that it does not have the potential of causing a tsunami.

The earthquake in the modified Mercalli intensity (MMI) was measured at IV specifically in the Sinabang area, which means it was felt by a large group of people and caused objects to rattle.

"During the day it was felt by many people inside houses and outside by a few people, causing broken potteries, creaked windows, doors, and walls," the BMKG website wrote.
