TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Papua Police chief, Insp. Gene. Mathius Fakhiri, said there are indications that the attack that killed a Mobile Brigade or Brimob officer in Napua, Jayawijaya, are members of an armed group.

"To confirm this, the police are still conducting an investigation," he said in Jayapura, Sunday, June 19.

To strengthen the investigation carried out by the Jayawijaya Police, he said, the Papuan Police had also sent additional troops to Wamena for law enforcement.

"This morning, in addition to 32 Brimob members, the Cartenz Peace Law Enforcement Task Force was also dispatched to Wamena to investigate and enforce the law," Mathius said today, June 20.

An internal investigation is also carried out to determine whether everything was done according to standard operating procedures (SOP). The police force implements a body system requiring at least five officers deployed to conflict-prone areas.

"However, from the reports received, when the incident occurred it was just the two of them,"

The incident in Napua began when a local resident asked Adjunct Commissioner of Police 'R' to shoot his cow. R and Diego Rumaropen went to Napua on Saturday, 18 June. After shooting the cow, R asked Diego to hold on to his gun.

Minutes later, a group of people came and attacked the victim, killing him, and then took his gun and R's gun.
