Police Arrest Yet Another Khilafatul Muslimin Figure

14 June 2022 08:32 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaHead of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police Sr. Comr. Endra Zulpan explained that yet another figure of a militant group Khilafatul Muslimin was arrested on Monday, June 13, 2022, in Mojokerto, East Java.

The 74-year-old man identified as AS was said to be the group’s education minister, playing a role in spreading the Islamic caliphate. The police found that nearly 30 schools affiliated with him.

However, Zulpan stopped short of detailing the names and locations of the schools. “What is clear is that [the schools] are already affiliated. I can't publish it right now,” he said on Monday.

He was also reluctant to explain whether the schools were Islamic boarding or regular public ones. The teachings, he underlined, could replace the country’s ideology of Pancasila.

“We'll explain later in the next few weeks. Perhaps Pak Kapolda (Metro Police Chief) will deliver it by himself,” Zulpan added.

With the latest arrest, the number of Khilafatul Muslimin figures who were arrested reached six. The other five were Abdul Qadir Hasan Baraja alias AQHB, AA, IN, FA, and SU. They were considered as top leaders of the group.

All of them were suspected of inciting, developing, and spreading teachings or understanding of the Islamic caliphate that are contrary to Pancasila, as well as delivering hoax news that sparked uproar among the community.
