TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan encouraged residents of the capital city to sort household waste in line with the Jakarta Waste Awareness Movement Week program on June 20-25, 2022.
"This activity will involve the entire community to play an active role in sorting and doing scheduled waste transport," said Anies in Jakarta on Thursday, June 9, 2022.
The former education and culture minister said that the program drives the function of the waste management sector at the community unit or RW level so that waste could be reduced starting from its source, including households.
Anies explained that as many as 2,743 RW throughout Jakarta will be involved in the program. This activity will run continuously and will not stop after the program ends.
"The household waste management movement is carried out together for one week throughout Jakarta," he said.
Anies Baswedan also hoped that the city residents will support this activity. "Hopefully this movement makes us more responsible [in waste management] and able to create solutions for a better environment," he said.
Previously, the Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH) Asep Kuswanto on Wednesday, June 8, hoped that waste management from sources, especially households, could be a new culture for Jakarta residents in sorting and reducing waste. As for records, Jakarta produced around 8,000 tons of waste daily sent to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST).
