TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri on Wednesday was apparently bothered by questions asked by journalists regarding the whereabouts of Harun Masiku. The former PDIP legislative candidate has been a KPK fugitive since 2020 for suspected bribery against a member of the General Elections Committee.
“Why are the questions only related to Harun Masiku? Did someone tell you to ask this?,” said the visibly agitated Firli following a meeting with House of Representatives (DPR) members on June 8. "It’s as if there are no other questions even though KPK handles many things and not just [the search for Masiku]," he went on.
Bahuri insisted that the anti-corruption agency is not exclusively committing to a chase of Masiku, saying there are 5 other individuals on the agency's list, which he acknowledged are yet to be arrested too. “They are still on our search list.”
On May 18, Bahuri asserted KPK’s motivation to continue the search against the fugitive and assured people that they are keen on capturing Harun Masiku.
"I'm sure to this day he can't sleep well because the KPK will always be looking for him. It's only a matter of time before he will be caught," said Bahuri on May 18.
Harun Masiku to this day continues to capture the public’s attention after allegedly being involved in bribery to influence elected DPR members in the 2019-2024 term. The former PDIP legislative candidate officially went missing and is a fugitive since January 2020. Interpol had also issued his name on its search list.
