Democrat Talks of Anies Baswedan-AHY Potential Pair in 2024 Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Democrat Party Jakarta executive board (DPD) chairman, Mujiyono, confirmed that many cadres wished Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY to be paired with Anies Baswedan in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Mujiyono acknowledged that according to a number of surveys, Jakarta Governor’s electability is higher than his party chairman AHY. Thus, Anies is now suited to be nominated as a presidential candidate while AHY is the vice-presidential candidate.
"Perhaps, the Anies-AHY pair is possible for the start because Anies has higher electability. But if Pak Anies no longer serves as a governor, his [electability] may drop,” said Mujiyono in a written statement in Jakarta, Wednesday, May 25, 2022, as quoted from Antara.
The Commission A Head of the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) also suggested that Anies join a political party cadre ahead of the election in order to maintain his electability and well participate in the contest.
A number of pollsters revealed that Anies led the poll on potential candidates for the 2024 presidential election. One of them was Indikator Politik Indonesia’s survey on April 14-19, 2022, which noted that Anies was in the third position as a presidential candidate with rising electability from 17.1 percent to 19. 4 percent.
However, Anies Baswedan has not yet determined the political vehicle that will lead him to the 2024 presidential election until date, while his position as Jakarta Governor which backs his electability will end on October 16, 2022.
