JIS to Be Inaugurated at Peak of 495th Jakarta Anniversary

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta administration bureau head Andriansyah stated that the grand launching of Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), North Jakarta, will be the highlight event of the 495th Jakarta Anniversary.

The city’s anniversary dubbed Jakarta Hajatan ke-495 will be held from May 24-June 25, 2022. The opening ceremony is scheduled on Bidadari Island, Thousands Islands on May 24, which can be streamed online via the city’s YouTube channel at 08:00 local time, while the peak or closing ceremony will feature a series of events, including the grand launching of the stadium on June 25.

“We plan to have the peak event on June 25, 2022. There will be a series of activities from morning until night,” said Andriansyah at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday, May 23, 2022.

The stadium inauguration will be filled with a series of events, such as the Persija match with the first kick off by former national team player Bambang Pamungkas, cultural performances, musical performances by domestic and international artists, and fireworks. Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan will also deliver a speech at the closing ceremony.

Jakarta Regional Secretary Marullah Matali said the anniversary of Jakarta falls on June 22 and there will be an array of of ceremonial events, including the plenary session of the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD).

Marullah said the city administration will hold the reception night of Jakarta Anniversary, which was suspended in recent years. “Hopefully the 495th Jakarta Hajatan can inspire the people of Jakarta again,” he said.
