TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A political expert from Al Azhar University Indonesia, Ujang Komarudin, opined that Gibran Rakabuming Raka has a chance to win the 2024 Jakarta Regional Head Election. The road of the Solo Mayor to the capital city will be opened if the acting governor replacing Anies Baswedan is President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s person.
“It is possible that whoever is appointed to be the acting governor is Jokowi's person and if Gibran runs [the regional election], there will be a chance [for him] to win,” Ujang told Tempo on Monday, May 23, 2022.
In addition, Jokowi will still be serving as President until October 2024, while the simultaneous election will be held in November 2024. “It is only a one-month gap,” he added.
However, the current political map remains unclear. The electability of figures who are rumored to be gubernatorial candidates is not yet obvious, as well as the pair and the coalition.
“So at this time, everyone still has the same opportunity, whoever he is,” said Ujang.
Regional head elections or Pilkada will be held simultaneously in November 2024. Several names of candidates have emerged, including President Jokowi's eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming, who has reportedly met with a number of political elites.
