TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian athletes won four more gold medals today, May 19, at the SEA Games Vietnam, bringing the country's position to the third spot in the standings of the Southeast Asian biannual multi-sport event.

The four gold came from Odekta Elvina Naibaho (marathon athletics), the men's compound archery team (Prima Wisnu Wardhana, Hendika Putra Pratama, Deki Hastian Adika), the women's rapid chess team (Medina Warda Aulia and Umi Fisabilillah), and Cok Istri Agung Sanistyarani (Karate 55 kg).

Indonesia currently bags 40 gold, 54 silver, and 53 bronze, placing the country in third place as of Thursday afternoon, taking over from the Philippines.

The first and second positions are still occupied by Vietnam (136 gold, 85 silver, and 76 bronze) and Thailand (58, 63, 87).

The Vietnam SEA Games will run until May 23, 2022. The Indonesian contingent is targeting to finish in the top four, but President Joko Widodo hopes the team can reach third place, or better.
