TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Agency’s Head of Disease Prevention and Control Lies Dwi Oktavia on Wednesday said that 49 people suffered from symptoms of acute hepatitis, which its origins are still unknown. However, 25 of them were excluded from the list after further tests showed signs of other diseases.
“So it is known that these 25 cases are not mysterious hepatitis. Some showed complications and there were some with dengue fever,” said Dwi in a meeting with the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) E Commission on May 18.
Furthermore, 20 of 24 patients are currently still being looked into as lab test results have not been produced yet. "Three people are considered as probable cases while another one is under the status as a suspect.”
So far, according to Oktavia, 5 people died caused of a disease suspected to be acute hepatitis.
Dwi Oktavia said all experts around the world are still unaware of the exact cause of acute hepatitis. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also not been able to confirm this acute hepatitis, unlike Covid-19.
"Covid-19 is confirmed by PCR results. Well for this yet. So we don't know for sure," said Oktavia.
