AP II Handled 41,500 Tons of Cargo Shipment during Eid; Mostly E-Commerce Goods

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State airport operator Angkasa Pura II or AP II noted that it had transported 41,500 tons of cargo during the Ramadan and Eid period, from April 22 to May 13. It consisted of domestic cargo weighing 23,856 tons and export-import cargo weighing 17,644 tons.
"The volume of domestic cargo transportation during Lebaran transportation increased by around 11 percent compared to the same period in 2019," AP II president director Muhammad Awaluddin said in his statement, Tuesday, May 17.
The AP II airport that was busiest handling cargo transportation during Eid was Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The total volume of cargo at the airport in Cengkareng reached 32,365 tons.
Next up was the Kualanamu Airport in Deli Serdang with a total cargo volume of 2,817 tons, followed by Pontianak Supadio Airport with 1,816 tons.
Awaluddin revealed that during this transportation period, a number of products that dominated the cargo shipment at AP II airports. He said that 97 percent of the total tonnage was general cargo or consignments that did not require special handling.
Of that group, the largest portion or 70 percent was e-commerce goods, and the types of products are garments and automotive parts.
In addition to general cargo, AP II serves special cargo that accounted for 3 percent of the total shipment. Special cargoes are products that require special handling, for example, food and animals.
