TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Oil Palm Farmers Association (Apkasindo) was set to stage a demonstration today, May 17, 2022, demanding the government to evaluate the policy on the export ban on CPO or crude palm oil.
The rally was planned to be held at two points: in front of the office of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartanto and in the Horse Statue area near the National Monument, Central Jakarta.
“Chairman of Apkasindo in 146 regencies/cities from 22 provincial regions will show concerns related to Indonesian oil palm farmers,” said Apkasindo’s council board in its official invitation, Monday, May 16, 2022.
Slated to take place in the morning at 09:00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB) until 12:00 WIB, the rally was held in response to the price of fresh fruit bunches or FFB which plummeted nearly 60 percent after the government announced the ban on April 28.
The chairman of Apkasindo Gulat Manurung confirmed the planned protest. “150 farmers from 22 provinces will take action,” said Gulat as quoted from Bisnis.
In the demonstration, farmers would voice five demands, including urging the government to protect farmers following the 75 percent drop in the FFB price in 22 provinces and urging President Jokowi to review the policy on the export ban of CPO, cooking oil products and their raw materials.
