Embankment in Tangerang City Collapses, Inundates 500 Houses

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The five-meter-high embankment of Ledug Alamanda River in Periuk District of Tangerang City collapsed on Tuesday night, May 10, following high-intensity rain in the region. Consequently, residential houses near the embankment were inundated.
“Floods hit five community units or RW in Periuk District at a height of 20 centimeters to one meter. But the condition is now under control,” said Periuk Sub-district Head Nanang Kosim on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.
He explained that the flooded areas in the district include RW 8, RW 9, and RW 10 of Sangiang Jaya Subdistrict and RW 22 and RW 25 of Gebang Raya Subdistrict.
“Around five hundred houses in the five subdistricts are affected [by the flooding],” he added.
The incident has been mitigated by the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Agency.
The local administrations have also established flood emergency posts that would provide food, aid, health services, and clean the affected areas.
The subdistrict team assisted by BPBD and the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) also deployed heavy vehicles to help the mobility of residents.
