TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police’s Traffic Corps called on Eid homecoming travelers to immediately return to Jakarta after having celebrated Eid al-Fitr in their hometowns to avert causing severe congestion during the Eid return traffic.
The Corps’ Law Enforcement Director, Brig. Gen. Aan Suhanan, said the Eid return traffic was projected to peak on May 7-8, thus he appealed to travelers to return home early to prevent congestion.
“When everyone has finished celebrating Eid with families, visiting relatives and laying a wreath at relatives’ graves, please return straightaway to Jakarta and your homes and eschew the dates May 7-8,” he said in a statement on Monday, May 2, 2022.
He also assured the police and other stakeholders were set to anticipate the return traffic, and that the traffic engineering policy has proved effective in dealing with the mudik (Eid homecoming trips) traffic.
“God willing, we are ready, that includes personnel, the support and methods. We will also set traffic engineering in motion if necessary,” he said.
