TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 shook Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) early today, April 30, at 01:25 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) updated the quake parameter to magnitude 4.8.

The center of the quake was at 9.74° South Latitude and 116.26° East Longitude, or at the sea 92 kilometers South of Praya City, NTB, in the depth of 50 kilometers.

BMKG's head of earthquake and tsunami center, Bambang Setiyo Prayitno, said that based on its epicenter and hypocenter, the quake was categorized as the shallow one caused by Australian plate subduction activity.

"The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has an oblique thrust fault mechanism," Bambang said in the statement on Saturday.

The shaking was felt in East Lombok, West Lombok, Mataram, with the intensity of level III of the MMI scale, which can be felt inside the house. It was as if trucks pass by.

Meanwhile, North Lombok, Central Lombok, and West Sumbawa felt the tremor with level II of the MMI scale. The earthquake showed no potential for a tsunami.
