TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno predicted hotel room occupancy will increase by 8 percent during the Eid homecoming or mudik season. The increase will be supported by people's high enthusiasm to travel or visit their relatives in their hometowns, now that the government has eased the requirements for long distance trips.
"People are enthusiastic after two years of not returning to their hometowns," Sandiaga said in a written response, Monday, April 25.
The minister said that this Eid there will be around 80 million mudik travelers, of which 60 percent or 48 million people will visit tourist attractions.
Sandiaga added that public mobility has been on an uptrend since January, when the occupancy rate of star hotels reached 42.43 percent; higher by 12.08 points compared to early 2021.
The uptrend in hotel occupancy is also seen from the increasing sales of travel tickets. On April 17, domestic airline ticket reservations reached 27 percent, and it is expected to keep increasing as the Eid nears.
