TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The number of daily COVID-19 cases in Yogyakarta continued to decline a week before Eid al-Fitr. The daily infection recorded on Monday, April 25, was below 10.
“There were nine new confirmed cases in Yogyakarta today,” said the spokesperson for the Yogyakarta Government, Ditya Nanaryo Aji, on Monday.
Ditya said that albeit there was still one new death case on Monday, the number of patients recovered from the disease also increased by eight cases. “One confirmed death case was recorded in Gunungkidul Regency,” he added.
As of Monday, Yogyakarta logged 238 active cases of COVID-19. The region’s daily positivity rate was 0.33 percent. “The occupancy rate of ICU beds was 10.26 percent, while that of non-critical beds (isolation room) was 4.68 percent,” Ditya said.
Along with the sloping trend in the daily cases that led to the relaxed public mobility restriction (PPKM) policy to Level 2, the local government decided to allow residents to hold mass Eid prayers.
Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X said the annual prayer could be held in congregation because the province has already been under PPKM Level 2.
However, this year's Eid prayer will no longer be centered in the North Square or in front of the Yogyakarta Palace, but in the South Square due to a construction project in the North Square.
