TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The surge in passenger numbers during the 2022 Eid homecoming flow at Soekarno-Hatta Airport has occurred since April 22, 2022. The state-owned airport operator AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the hike was as predicted.
“Based on the predictions there would be a surge in passenger numbers starting April 22,” said Awaluddin in Tangerang, Sunday, April 24.
The rise in passenger numbers at 20 airport terminals on April 22 was quite significant as there were 160,000 passengers recorded. The average number of take off and landing planes in one day previously amounted to around 600, yet now it has reached 900.
Awaluddin confirmed that his side was ready for the homecoming or mudik period. “We have prepared the SOPs, both operations to the airport, take-off traffic, and the implementation of health protocols according to the government’s guidelines,” he said.
AP II had also reactivated several terminals that were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes 5,700 personnel from a number of stakeholders.
The peak of the homecoming period was predicted on April 30, 2022, with an estimated number of passenger movement at 180,000.
At Soekarno-Hatta Airport, the passenger movement during the Eid homecoming was predicted to hit 120,000. “For the return flow, it will be around 200,000. The peak will occur on May 28, 2022,” said Awaluddin.
