TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Labor Party in an official statement on Thursday has demanded President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to replace Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi over the significant rise of cooking oil prices and scarcity. The statement is issued in commemoration of Labor Day.
"Remove the Trade Minister from his position, a person who has been defeated by cooking oil mafias," Labor Party president Said Iqbal wrote on Wednesday, April 20.
The Attorney General's Office (AGO) previously named four suspects in a case involving granting exports for crude palm oil that sparked a nationwide scarcity for cooking oil. The Trade Ministry's director general of foreign trade Indrasari Wisnu Wardhana is one of the suspects.
Minister Lutfi responded to the suspect naming by instructing employees of the Ministry he leads to entirely cooperate with law enforcers in this case
Apart from demanding the Trade Minister's resignation, the Labor Party has again voiced rejection against the Omnibus Law and demands prices of staple commodities to be reduced.
Labor Day will be commemorated on May 14 as the actual day on May 1st coincides with the Muslim community's Eid al-Fitr day signalling the end of the holy month of Ramadan. They intend to hold a mass rally at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout or Bundaran Hotel Indonesia which is expected to be participated by thousands of labor workers across major cities in Indonesia.
