TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The construction progress of Greater Jakarta Light Rail Transit or LRT Jabodebek has now reached 81.45 percent. State-owned railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has commenced operational checks and tests so as to meet the soft launching target on August 17, 2022.
The train connecting Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi was also expected to operate commercially soon after the soft launching.
“KAI has prepared a comprehensive strategy and developed strict safety protocols throughout the testing process until it is operated later,” said KAI's VP of Public Relations Joni Martinus in a written statement on Monday, April 11.
At present, KAI has entered the trial period of the Grade of Automation Lv 3 (GoA 3) system on cross-services which allows the train to operate without a machinist. The firm has also learned from its evaluation of the previous incident in which two trains collided during a trial run on the Cibubur-Ciracas route, East Jakarta, back in October 2021.
“Even without a machinist, the automated system that works properly according to the programming will automatically guarantee safety,” he said.
However, Joni said train attendants and security personnel will ensure the safety and convenience of passengers from the departure station until the destination station of LRT Jabodebek. “The testing runs smoothly and we will continue to conduct the process on all rail lines and infrastructures carefully.”
