6,000 Joint Personnel of Military, Police Deployed to Secure Students' Rally

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Metro Police Chief Inspector Fadil Imran said 6,826 joint personnel were deployed to secure the demonstration initiated by the Indonesian Students Executive Boards' Alliance (BEM SI) today, April 11, in the Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue area and the Parliament building.

Fadil outlined that 5,626 personnel from Mobile Brigade (Brimob) and Jakarta Military Command (Kodam Jaya) would be mobilized at the Horse Statue, Monas, Central Jakarta, and 1,200 joint personnel would be placed in the Parliament.

He also appealed to all personnel on duty to comply with the Police Chief Regulation No. 1 of 2009 and Police Chief's Permanent Procedures No. 1 of 2010 to secure the rally in a humane and persuasive manner. 

“First, conduct duty by taking a humane and persuasive approach. Uphold human rights and democratic mechanisms to express opinions,” said Fadil after a morning briefing at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Monday, April 11.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Military Commander Maj. Gen. Untung Budiharto said his side would deploy 1,333 personnel to assist in securing the demonstration. He also appealed to the personnel to implement a humane approach in dealing with the protestors.

BEM SI was determined to stage a demonstration in front of the DPR/MPR building on April 11, 2022, rejecting the extension of the president's term of office and the postponement of the 2024 General Elections.
