TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government through the Minister of Communication and Information (Kominfo), Johnny G. Plate, denied hacking into the social media accounts belonging to student organization leaders ahead of today’s demonstration, April 11.
“The government has never committed hacking, there is no hacking,” said Johnny at the Widya Chandra official house, South Jakarta, Sunday, April 10, as quoted from a press release issued by the Kominfo Ministry.
Johnny said cyberattacks could occur every second in cyberspace so he reminded them to take good care of their digital space. “This includes maintaining the encryption,” he added.
Every user of the social media platform has a one-time password (OTP) that can be used to protect the account, he informed. People are also encouraged to change their passwords regularly to prevent hacking.
“Don't let things like that (hacking) happen and accuse the government when (cyber) attacks occur, especially during an agenda or event like this,” Johnny said.
According to him, the government especially the Kominfo Ministry, runs its tasks and roles to maintain a safe and healthy digital space. He claimed that during his term of office as a minister, he committed to honoring freedom of the press, expression of opinion, freedom of expression, and freedom of speech.
