Four Demands Voiced by Students in Today's Rally

11 April 2022 11:04 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian Students Executive Boards' Alliance (BEM SI) was determined to stage a mass rally before the Parliament building in Senayan, Central Jakarta today, April 11. The event would reportedly start at 10 a.m. until an unspecified time.

The alliance spokesman Luthfi Yufrizal said his side would voice four demands. “First, we urge and demand the representatives of the people to listen and convey demands of the people, not the party,” said Luthfi in a statement, Monday.

Protestors also urged people’s representatives to take public voice given that the mass rallies have been held in various regions from March 28 until April 11, 2022.

The third demand is that urge and demand people’s representatives not to betray the state constitution by making amendments and firmly reject the delay of the 2024 General Elections or three presidential office terms.

The last demand, Luthfi said, protestors urge and demand people’s representatives to submit studies and 18 demands of students to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo that have not been responded to until now.

“We exist and will continue to multiply [in number]. Panjang Umur Perjuangan! (Long Live the Struggle!)” Luthfi remarked.

Earlier, Luthfi claimed he was worried that there will be irresponsible groups using the rally and cause disorder. Thus, his side did not invite groups outside the campus to join the demonstration and established a special team to prevent intruders. Luthfi ensured that BEM SI aimed to stage a peaceful rally without chaos.
