TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of political parties reportedly started setting their eyes on Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka for the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada) following meetings between the latter and a number of elite parties.
A political observer from the Indonesia Political Review, Ujang Komarudin, opined that the meetings had certain goals and that President Jokowi’s eldest son is being eyed to be a gubernatorial candidate in the upcoming simultaneous elections.
“It seems that Gibran is being prepared to enter a higher political contest,” said Ujang on Friday, April 8.
He predicted that Gibran could be a gubernatorial candidate for two regions, Central Java and Jakarta. However, Gibran may follow in the track records of his father who was once the top person in the capital.
“In my opinion, he could run as a candidate for Jakarta or Central Java governor. But it is more likely Jakarta because it is more prestigious and follows in the footsteps of his father, Jokowi, who was once Jakarta governor,” Ujang explained.
Gibran Rakabuming Raka has indeed met with a number of political elites, including Golkar Party chair Airlangga Hartarto, PAN chair Zulkifli Hasan, Perindo Party chairman Hary Tanoesoedibjo, and Gerindra Party Secretary-General Ahmad Muzani.
