TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of politicians of the National Mandate Party (PAN) collectively stated that Party chairman Zulkifli Hasan no longer is in support of the idea to postpone the 2024 general election.
Bima Arya, a PAN branch chairperson, said Zulkifli had gathered organization elites in order to discuss an issue at his house on April 6.
“The chairperson made it clear that the discourse of postponing the election will not come to fruition as it collides with the political reality that made it impossible, it has weak support from the parliament,” said Bima on Thursday, April 7.
Another PAN branch leader, Saleh Partaonan Daulay said Zulkifli had instructed Party members to focus on the 2024 general election (Pemilu) by activating already established networks and volunteers.
Meanwhile, PAN deputy Viva Yoga Mauladi on April 7 said the Party’s official stance will always align with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s instruction.
"As a political party in coalition with the government, PAN will surely adhere to President Jokowi’s policy," said Viva.
Previously, the President rebuked his subordinates for throwing issues about postponing the election and extending his term of office.
“No one should try to speak about delaying [the elections], extending the presidential term. No more!,” said Jokowi in a meeting that was attended by all ministers and government institution leaders at the State Palace on April 6.
