TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 62-year old man Muhammad Endang Junaedi on Thursday, April 7, purchased a full-size SUV by making a down payment of Rp133 million for a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport with Rp500 coins collected in over a thousand plastic bags.
Asked about his purchase at the car’s showroom in the area of Cikampek, Karawang,, Junaedi said “I want to buy a Pajero for my wife who celebrated her birthday yesterday.”
The elderly man arrived at the car showroom with 1,330 plastic bags placed inside a larger sack which he only needed to collect in months. The SUV's starting price is half a million Rupiah.
However, it should not be a surprise for locals as Junaedi is known to be the owner of a makeshift bridge supported by multiple boats to keep it afloat known as the Rumambe crossing located in the Anggadita Village in Karawang, West Java.
The largest group of users passing the bridge on a daily basis are factory workers in the area of Ciampel. As it is privately owned, people crossing the bridge are charged Rp2,000 for each crossing, and this is the source of how he is able to purchase a full-size SUV, he said.
