Soekarno-Hatta Airport's Air Traffic Movement Hits Record

TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II (AP II) recorded a significant spike in the air passengers' movement at Soekarno-Hatta Airport over the past week ahead of Ramadan.

The company’s spokesman M. Holik Muwardi said the international airport served more than 100,000 passengers, both arriving and departing, in the past week.

“The figure reaches 70 percent of the passengers' number in normal times or before the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Holik on Thursday, March 31.

During the pandemic, the number of passengers at the airport only reached 60,000-70,000 passengers per day. This past week, the number hit more than 100,000 per day.

On Sunday, March 27, the passengers' number broke a record high during the pandemic, amounting to 124,000 passengers per day.

Due to the increasing trend of passengers, AP II decided to reopen Terminal 1A starting April 1, 2022. For the initial stage, Airfast airline will start operating, followed by Super Air Jet and Sriwijaya airline on April 6.

When all airlines resume operation in Terminal 1A, at least 15,000 passengers who previously swarmed Terminal 2 and 3 will shift to Terminal 1 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport. “There will be approximately 15,000 passengers per day, both arriving and departing if all airlines return [to Terminal 1],” Holik concluded.
