New Capital Can Accommodate 1.9 Mn People until 2045

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Public Workings and Public Housings calculated that the new capital city of Nusantara (IKN) in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan Timur, could accommodate around 1.7-1.9 million people until the year 2045. The residents' mobilization to IKN will be done gradually.
“The development of IKN [is done] gradually and will have a concept of future smart forest city of Indonesia, so the environmental aspects will be watched closely,” said the ministry's official, Diana Kusumastuti, Saturday, March 26.
The people will reside in a 56,180 hectares area and an extension of 256,142 hectares. Meanwhile, for the governmental center (KIPP) area, it will be 6,671 hectares. Around 280,000 to 300,000 people are targeted to live there.
The Indonesian Government plans to build the new capital city with the concept of a future smart forest city. In the 2022-2024 period, the development will be prioritized for 1A-1 and 1A-2 zones that cover the KIPP zone, where there will be State Palace, governmental offices, and public facilities.
