Indonesia's Quarantine-Free Travel Policy; Here's What Travelers Need To Know

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has lifted the quarantine requirement for international travelers after it was announced by President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, which has been made effective on Wednesday, March 23. However, there are requirements that must be met before travelers apply for this facility.

Based on the official circular No.15/2022 by the Covid-19 task force, travelers arriving from overseas can apply for this facility at 7 of Indonesia’s international airports such as Soekarno-Hatta, Juanda, Ngurah Rai, Hang Nadim, Raja Haji Fisabilillah, Sam Ratulangi, and Zainuddin Abdul Madjid.

There are also 5 international-grade ports that adopt this policy starting from Tanjung Benoa, Batam, Tanjung Pinang, Bintan, and Nunukan. 

According to the circular, the quarantine-free policy can only be granted to travelers who have been completely vaccinated and a booster shot proven by an official vaccine certificate. 

Indonesian and international citizens who own a KITAS or KITAP with a negative Covid-19 test result but are not vaccinated must get their vaccine shot as they arrive in Indonesia. Travelers who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons but have been tested negative for Covid-19 must undergo quarantine upon arrival.

International travelers are also required to take a swab test as they arrive in Indonesia and can continue their journey once tested negative but must go into quarantine that is not paid by the government if the test results show positive for coronavirus.
