TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno has spoken up about the rain-diverting shaman at the 2022 Mandalika MotoGP on Sunday which drew the public spotlight in the country and abroad. He said the profession of rain shaman and the rituals are part of Indonesian local wisdom.
“This is part of the attraction of local wisdom, a culture that has its own charm. But of course, Allah destined the race to be delayed by one hour and it happened. This is a memorable moment not only for racers but also for the Indonesian people,” said Sandiaga in an official statement, Monday, March 21.
The race day of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia at Mandalika Circuit, Lombok, was delayed due to heavy rain. “When the rain falls, we coordinate to ensure that this event must comply with the safety rules for the riders and the entire crew,” he said.
Sandiaga Uno recalled a moment that caught his attention in the midst of the rain. It was when President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo came down to Pit Lane and greeted the people to give spirit.
“At that time the President decided to continue [the inaugural race] of singing the national anthem "Indonesia Raya" and alhamdulillah after it was sung, the rain started to subside and the race could start,” he said.
