TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government will prepare policies to ensure food availability, affordability, and safety ahead of Ramadan and Eid this year.
The coordinating minister for economic affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that the government would focus on food availability, the provision of production facilities and infrastructure as well as market access and smooth distribution.
“The government is committed to ensuring the availability of food for the people, especially ahead of Ramadan and Eid in 1443 Hijri year," he said in a press statement cited by Bisnis.com, Saturday, March 19. He added that collaboration with various parties would be needed to ensure food availability for the people.
Airlangga said that the government also continues the monitoring of regions with food surplus and food deficit so it can immediately take action when there is a region experiencing a food deficit. State-owned companies in the transportation sector will be optimized to ensure food distribution to various Indonesian regions.
Regarding the cooking oil commodity, he went on, the government has issued several policies related to selling price at the consumer level. The commodity is now sold at Rp14,000/liter for bulk palm cooking oil at the traditional market. The government is also coordinating with the producers to ensure the availability of palm cooking oil in the market.
The minister added that, in order to maintain the public purchasing power and their ability to access food, the government continues to provide support for Indonesian consumers, both in the form of food supply and price stabilization programs as well as food assistance to communities in need.
