TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Flag-carrier Garuda Indonesia and its low-cost carrier subsidiary Citilink prepared 236 flights to Lombok ahead of the 2022 MotoGP in Mandalika. Garuda Group increased the flight frequency to accommodate high public interest in the international motorcycle racing event.
“The additional flights will be available from March 15 to March 23,” said Garuda President Director Irfan Setiaputra in a written message, Thursday, March 17.
In detail, Garuda will serve 138 flights using wide-body aircraft A330-300 and A330-200 and narrow-body aircraft B737-800NG. Meanwhile, Citilink will prepare 98 flights.
Citilink operates Airbus A 320 connecting Lombok to and from three major cities in Indonesia, viz. Jakarta, Surabaya, and Denpasar. In addition to regular flights, the company will provide a shuttle flight service for the Denpasar-Lombok round-trip route which will operate on Sunday, March 20.
“Hopefully, it can be an option for people who want to watch MotoGP in Mandalika, Lombok, as well as travel in Bali with a more seamless choice of flight schedules,” Irfan remarked.
“[The additional flights] will not only bridge the community's need to attend MotoGP but they are also a continuous step to strengthen the collaboration of the Indonesian tourism ecosystem,” Irfan added.
Garuda Indonesia has also served 23 special charter flights for MotoGP racers and official teams which will last for three days on March 18-20, 2022.
