TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in launching the city’s TransJakarta electric bus fleet on Wednesday in Monas said the city administration decided to operate 30 electric-powered buses in an attempt to reduce carbon emissions.
This also marks the city’s first substantial step towards the electrification era in the future. Jakarta transportation agency has sourced the buses from manufacturer Build Your Dream (BYD), which will later partner with Bakrie and Brothers as sole brand holder agent.
“Today, 30 electric buses are officially operated across TransJakarta routes, Insyallah there will be 100 of these vehicles operated by the end of this year. This is part of the testing phase that we are committing to,” said the governor on March 9, Antaranews reported.
The fleet will be operated by PT Mayasari Bhakt across a wide array of routes, starting from the 1P route or non-BRT covering Senen Terminal, Bundaran HI, and Senayan; 1R route across Tanah Abang, Senen Terminal; 1N over Blok M, Tanah Abang, and 6N route covering Ragunan, Blok M. Operational hours start from 6 in the morning up to 9 in the evening.
Anies Baswedan asserted that this program has been realized to provide the public with transportation options that can help reduce the city’s pollution issue. The city plans to replace its entire TransJakarta fleet with electric powered ones by 2030.
