Statistics Indonesia: More People Staying Home in February

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in a press conference on Tuesday reported that public mobility throughout February showed a significant drop compared to the previous month. This, BPS added, was mainly driven by the large number of Covid-19 transmission cases caused by the Omicron variant.
“More people stayed at home in February. There was 9.23 percent of people staying home while in January, the percentage was at 5.26 percent,” said Statistics Indonesia deputy of service and statistics distribution on March 1.

The drop in mass mobility was seen at retail stores, recreation sites, shopping areas, transit spots, and office or working areas. In the retail and recreation area, the mobility dropped to 3.68 percent from 7.45 percent. The drop was also significant at grocery stores with 25.23 percent in February and 27,55 percent in January.
Public parks felt the most reduction in people’s mobility as it recorded 4.86 percent, compared to January’s 10.94 percent.
People's mobility across transit locations, which was initially -12.65 percent compared to the beginning of 2020, fell to -24.05 percent. Meanwhile, mobility in work areas in February fell from -1.68 percent to -5.82 percent.
