TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I said the passenger traffic of the international routes at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport since February 1-20 reached 992 people. The passengers were carried by state flag carrier Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines.

“We hope that in the future the number of international passengers arriving in Bali continues to climb so it can help with the economic recovery of the people and the tourism sector of Bali that have been affected since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Angkasa Pura I vice president corporate secretary Handy Heryudhitiawan on Monday, February 21, 2022.

The government has reopened the international routes at the airport to cater to international tourists following the enactment of the travel corridor arrangement (TCA) with multiple countries.

Handy stopped short of detailing the countries of origin of foreign tourists arriving at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, saying the data were within the authority of the Immigration.

Commenting on the climbing cases of Omicron in the country, he said his company had continued to keep an eye on the situation and “leave the policy to the central government and related stakeholders.”

He believed, however, that the trend of international flights would recover despite the surging cases although it might take a while. He then referred to the plans of several foreign airlines to reactivate its international routes to Bali.

“Based on the information that we have received, the process of reactivation of routes for international airlines is still afoot,” he said.
