TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Social and Cultural Affairs Functional Officer at the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Kyiv, Ukraine, Erna Herlina, on Tuesday said the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Ukraine remain unaffected by the escalating tensions in the Ukraine and Russian border.
She noted that this year, Indonesia already planned to commemorate its long-running bilateral partnership with Ukraine.
"This year, Indonesia and Ukraine will celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations and plans to commemorate that with a number of activities that will tighten relations between us," said Herlina on February 15.
Citing the data from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Indonesia's investment in Ukraine are spread across a number of industries such as pharmacy and information technology, and marketing. Meanwhile, Ukraine itself has invested 55 projects in Indonesia in 2021 with values amounting to US$1.13 million.
Moreover, Herlina said data from the Trade Ministry suggests bilateral trade with Ukraine last year alone amounted to US$1.46 billion, which grew by 22.83 percent compared to 2020. The trade value has even exceeded the total value prior to the pandemic.
"Indonesia's largest export is palm oil, which is 66.58 percent of Indonesia's total exports, while the largest import from Ukraine is wheat at 93 percent," Herlina added.
