TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has asked the National Police to investigate allegations of quarantine mafia during the Covid-19 pandemic. In response to the president's attention towards the matter, the Police Chief of Public Relations, Gen. Insp. Dedi Prasetyo, said that his institution had prepared certain measures.
According to Dedi, the police have cooperated with related parties, namely the Covid-19 task force and directly-involved stakeholders. "The team set by the National Police Chief will strictly punish those involved with quarantine violations," he said at Police HQ, Wednesday, February 2.
He said that the international-related matters and Indonesia quarantine system must run well; from the arrival to the monitoring through Police official application, including when people arrived at the hotel for quarantine.
The police added that all quarantine-related matters must be tightened and the officers have taken action for those involved in quarantine abuse. "This is the police chief's commitment to strictly punish violators according to law."
Jokowi requests to exterminate the quarantine mafia amid the resurgence of Covid-19 cases. In addition, the transmissive Omicron variant has spread rapidly even though it creates mild symptoms.
Previously, the quarantine violation was committed by a selebgram Rachel Vennya and her boyfriend, Salim Nauderer, that put the case in the public spotlight. Rachel and Salim were allegedly fled the Wisma Atlet Pademangan, where they underwent Covid-19 quarantine after returning from the United States last year.
