TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo today inaugurated seven ports and four commercial boats in Toba Regency, North Sumatra.
“Today, seven ferry ports in the Lake Toba area have been completed and can be used by the community,” said the President as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Wednesday, Feb. 2.
The seven ferry ports are:
- Ajibata Ferry Port in Toba Regency
- Balige Ferry Port in Lake Toba Regency
- Simanindo Ferry Port in Samosir Regency
- Tigaras Ferry Port in Simalungun Regency
- Muara Ferry Port in North Tapanuli Regency
- Baktiraja Ferry Port in Humbang Hasundutan Regency
- Tongging Ferry Port in Karo Regency
The head of state hoped that the ports would encourage inter-sub-district and inter-district connectivity to facilitate public activities in the region.
Other than ports, public transportation is also necessary for the area. “So the government also launched four commercial boats today,” he added.
The mass transports are two water buses named Asa-Asa and Jurung-Jurung and two commercial boats (KMP) named Kaldera Toba and Pora-Pora. Each motorboat and water bus can carry around 150 people and dozens of vehicles.
Jokowi also hoped that the operation of the ports and ships would support the tourism sector in Lake Toba as one of the country’s super-priority tourist destinations.
