TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno constantly attempts to reignite Indonesia’s tourism following the tough times and economically-crippling Covid-19 pandemic. One of the ministry’s attempts is by opening travel bubbles with other countries.
Citing a statement published in the ministry’s website kemenparekraf.go.id, Sandiaga Uno suggests notable tourism destinations and entrances for international tourists such as Bali, Jakarta, Batam, and Bintan to receive vaccination priority.
In the early stages of 2022, a travel bubble was introduced by Indonesia with Singapore, with the destination of the Riau Islands. The covid-19.go.id website explains that the entrances for international tourists in the region are available at the International Ferry Terminal NongsaPura and the Bintan Telani ferry terminal.
This travel bubble will be evaluated in two weeks' time as the coordinating minister Luhut Pandjaitan said they will consider stopping the travel bubble if problems arise in the future.
Travel bubbles, also called travel bridges or corona corridors, do away with that waiting period for a select group of travelers from certain countries where the Covid-19 pandemic has been contained.
