TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinator of Java-Bali Public Mobility Restriction (PPKM), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, urged Greater Jakarta to accelerate booster vaccination to anticipate the wave of Omicron transmission.

During a coordinating meeting with all Greater Jakarta Governors on Thursday, January 20, it was mentioned that most Covid-19 cases occurred in Greater Jakarta where the vaccination rate is high.

Therefore, today Luhut wrote that acceleration is necessary. "Today, the curtain of war (with covid) is drawn due to the surge of cases and I implore governors in Jakarta, Banten, and West Java to accelerate the booster vaccines."

Furthermore, considering Greater Jakarta is the center of mobility, transmission could occur quicker. Despite no significant rises, the PPKM coordinator still asked other provinces to be prepared.

However, considering what happened in other countries, hospital treatment and mortality rates might go up when the case increases. "The effort to flatten the curve is a must to reduce the burden of the healthcare facilities," said Luhut.

In addition, he asked the military and police assistance to prepare for isolation centers in each area. Luhut then reminded all regents and governors to be honest and don't lie about the cases' data for precise countermeasure.

During the same meeting, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin added that the highest cases occurred in Jakarta and will spread to the surrounding areas. "We have to increase tracing and testing to find out the transmission, and continue the vaccinations."
