TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Consuming the same food such as chickens or pasta won't appease the appetite forever and dull the taste. To fix that, try adding salmon to weekly meals. This particular fish is quite popular due to its light taste and can be served in any dish.

In addition to its taste and utilization, the fish is super seafood and one of the healthiest food. According to Tammy Lakatos Shames and Lyssie Lakatos, who are also known as the Nutrition Twins, Salmon is protein-rich in Omega-3, which is helpful to treat inflammation, high blood pressure and other illness. Furthermore, that protein also fills the stomach and speed-up injury recoveries by healing and rebuilding the muscles.

Salmon also contains potassium and riboflavin, non-mercurial and easy to store, cook or freeze. Additionally, the fish that is known for its red skin and contains many nutritious elements is relatively low-calories with 3 ounces of it only has 175 calories.

The following are benefits of consuming Salmon:

1. Packed with B12

According to the twins, Salmon is full of Vitamin B, especially B12 and these vitamins is what turn the food into energy. Furthermore, 3.5 ounces of salmon contains more than the average amount of daily B12, 60% of niacin and B6 recommended consumptions that is crucial for brain growth and maintain the nerves and immunities.

2. Vitamin and Nutrients

Salmon contains potassium that fights bloated stomach and control blood flows; Selenium which is good for bones and protects from cancer; Vit. D that strengthen the bones; and an antioxidant called astaxanthin which maintains the health of the brain, heart, skin and nerves system.

3. Lowers Heart Disease and Stroke

Consuming salmon has been scientifically proven as healthy food and eating it lowers the risks of heart diseases and stroke. "Salmon lowers the cholesterol and blood pressures, thus reducing inflammation in the artery and lowers risks of heart disease. It also helps in preventing stroke," said the twins.

4. Fights Cognitive Decline

"In addition to heart diseases and stroke, Salmon was proven to lower the risks of cancer and cognitive illness, such as Alzheimer," said the twins. To reap this benefit, they advise consuming 2.4 ounces of omega-3-rich seafood like salmon.

Despite its benefits, certain people have to avoid salmon, namely for those who use anticoagulants or blood thinner, as fishes also have the same function as it.

Albeit relatively low-mercury, salmon might contain Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) which is harmful industrial chemicals that leads to cancer, and decline of immunities, nerves and endocrine

To prevent that, the Nutrition Twins advise buying salmon caught from the wild if possible, as the bred ones tend to contain PCB.
