Jakarta Logs 670 New Infections; Omicron Caseload at 856

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Office recorded 670 new cases of Covid-19 as of yesterday, January 18. This brings the capital's caseload up to 872,092 cases.
"Of those cases, 222 are international travelers," The office's head of disease prevention and control, Dwi Oktavia Handayani, said as quoted by Tempo from the PPID Jakarta's press release.
Yesterday, Jakarta also recorded an increase in active cases by 453. The Health office also reported increasing cases of the Omicron variant, with 856 cases logged in total as of January 18.
Authorities said that 663 of the Omicron variant infections were imported cases while 193 were local transmissions.
Jakarta now has 4,297 people who are being treated or in isolation for Covid-19.
Dwi Oktavia said that 2,176 of these are people who had traveled overseas.
Over the past week, Jakarta's positivity rate was reached 3.6%, below the national's 10.8%.
