TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia on Tuesday withdrew TRICKS-branded snacks from its fleet after causing public uproar as its packaging had an ilustration of Kaesang Pangarep. It will be replaced with plain packaging version.
Garuda president director Irfan Setiaputra claims he was not aware of the snack’s packaging visual features, which showed the President’s son. The snack is produced by Tays Bakers.
“We actually do have a partnership with TRICKS through its ACS (Aerofood Indonesia ACS) subsidiary, but for plain packaging,” said Irfan to Tempo on January 18.
He explains that the existing contract they have with Tays Bakers will not be terminated due to this incident and assures that the company will evaluate the procurement of snacks and ensure they are all wrapped in plain packaging.
Tays Bakers, meanwhile, confirmed that the snacks they produced and supplied to Garuda Indonesia showed a drawing of the President’s son as part of a co-branding scheme with PT Harapan Bangsa Kita.
They claim the Kaesang packaging is part of a retail market distribution to promote national MSMEs.
