TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) on Tuesday has finally proposed the draft bill on sexual violence criminal offences (RUU TPKS) in a plenary meeting led by House Speaker Puan Maharani.

The draft law had been intensively discussed in the House’s legislation body since 2016 and underwent name changes.

“The DPR will wait for the President’s order to appoint a government representative to discuss the draft law together with legislators,” said the DPR Speaker after officially striking the gavel.

This was approved by every political party faction with several notes such as the one that comes from PDIP requesting the draft law oversee sexual deviation issues.

Meanwhile, the Gerindra Party faction noted that the Draft Bill should oversee prevention and not just focus on prosecution aspects.

This comes as positive news as the sexual violence eradication Draft Bill had been discussed since 2016 with its initial name being the eradication of sexual violence. Members of the House discussed the Draft Bill on the New Capital City in today’s plenary.
