TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Endra Zulpin, said that rumors about foreign nationals escaping Covid-19 quarantine were actually caused by a technical glitch where the foreigners had actually canceled their flight before the plane even departed to Indonesia.
"The two foreigners were not at the hotel because they had actually canceled their flight via a travel agent," Endra confirmed on Thursday, January 13, 2022. "This caused the person's data to remain logged and recorded by the system here even though they had never departed," he added.
Endra believed that the data resulted in misleading information causing the Covid-19 task force to think that the foreigners were staying at a designated quarantine hotel. The Police Commissioner assured that each and every traveler arriving from overseas is monitored by the Karantina Presisi application.
This app is interconnected with 134 hotels that have been appointed as health quarantine hotels. International visitors are required to scan a barcode they obtained by signing on the quarantine app, which will be used to monitor their mobility during the quarantine period.
