TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) from the POKS Party Kurniasih Mufidayati, said that the party will insist on standing against the sexual violence Draft Bill (RUU TPKS), arguing that Indonesia is not just facing an alarming situation regarding sexual violence, but also sexual freedom and deviation.
"These three problems of indecencies have become our concern," said Kurniasih in a public legislation forum on Thursday, January 13, 2022.
Kurniasih believed that the Draft Bill should cover issues related to sexual violence, sexual freedom, and sexual distortion.
"Because what is regulated [in the bill] only concerns sexual violence, it causes a legal vacuum on behaviors concerning sexual freedom and sexual distortion," she added.
Kurniasih stated that, based on data from the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), the main contributor of HIV cases come from abnormal sexual activities and premarital sex or adultery.
She said that the data showed that 25 percent of unwanted pregnancies from premarital sex happened because of adultery. Kurniasih claimed that such behavior is evident and common among college students, which according to her, will lead to cases of sexual violence.
"We want to save the future generation of this country from potentially worse sexual violence, adultery, and sexual distortion," said the PKS member.
