7 Schools in South Jakarta Closed due to COVID-19

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said seven schools in South Jakarta were closed following the findings of COVID-19 cases.

“We have temporarily closed at least seven schools [as of] yesterday,” said Riza at City Hall, Central Jakarta, Thursday, January 13.

However, Riza stopped short of specifying which educational buildings were closed and mentioning the number of students and teachers who were exposed to the coronavirus.

Based on data received by Tempo, there were six students and one teacher infected with the coronavirus disease in South Jakarta. 

The details are as follow:

1. Labschool Junior High School was temporarily closed on January 6, 2022, after one student tested positive for the virus.
2. Andalus Islamic Junior High School was temporarily closed on January 10, 2022, after one student tested positive yet did not present symptoms or asymptomatic.
3. Labschool Senior High School was temporarily closed on January 11, 2022, after positive cases were found in one teacher and two students.
4. Assisi Vocational School was temporarily closed on January 11, 2022, after one student was exposed to the disease.
5. Azhari Islamic Junior High School Rasuna was temporarily closed on January 12, 2022, as one student was confirmed positive.

Additionally, the Andalus Islamic Vocational School and the Al Andalusian PKBM located in the same building of Andalus Islamic Junior High School were also closed temporarily.

Riza explained that schools would be closed for five days if the findings of COVID-19 cases are below five percent of the total school population. “If it's above five percent, it (school) is closed for 14 days,” he said.
