TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is set to administer half-a-dose of Covid-19 vaccines in the upcoming booster rollout on January 12.

“International and domestic researches show half-a-dose booster shots resulted in an increase in antibodies on par to full-dose vaccinations and even resulted in lighter post-immunization incidents (KIPI),” said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin in a press conference on January 11.

The Minister said there are at least three booster vaccine combinations that will be administered tomorrow. He explained that it could be homologous, or the booster given would be the same brand as the primary doses, as well as heterologous or using a different brand from the primary jabs.

First, those who had Sinovac in the first and second shots will be given half a dose of Pfizer vaccines. The second alternative is the Sinovac recipients will get half a dose of Astrazeneca vaccines. The third scenario involves recipients of AstraZeneca primaries, who would be given half a dose of Moderna.

The Health Minister said the combination of alternatives can likely grow in the future and correspond to the development of domestic research and vaccine availability.
